A portrait is a mirror for the artist. It’s a reflection of many things unseen. Taking a portrait is a meeting of two separate energies existing within one physical space, and in the case of a self portrait, there is the perceived self and the self captured. A successful portrait depicts the essence and truth of the moment. It does not sell, it does not objectify, it does not perverse and it does not obscure the true nature of the subject. It breathes, it feels and it provokes contemplation. The images below are a combination of self portraits and captures of beautiful souls I’ve had the pleasure of knowing.
